Azamara Cruises Room Service / In-Room Dining Menu (& GF Tips)

Azamara Cruises Room Service is included 24 hours a day! There is no additional delivery charge or surcharge for any of the food items listed in the room service menu. (During MDR opening times, it is also possible to order from the MDR menu as well.)

I was on the Azamara Pursuit in July / August 2024 on my summer holiday cruise! As a gluten free diner, I’ve become slightly obsessive about finding (and reading) menus before my cruises, especially if I haven’t traveled on that particular ship before. I couldn’t find Azamara’s room service menu online, so I thought I’ll share it for those diners with dietary requirements who may be anxious to know about what’s available onboard an Azamara Cruises ship.

Azamara Cruises Daytime Room Service Menu

The Daytime Room Service menu is available from 10am to 10pm. Before 10am, you can order room service breakfast (menu here). After 10pm, you’ll need to order from the late night dining menu, which is fairly similar but from a smaller menu.

Note: There IS an additional charge for alcohol beverages and large bottles of water, if you request them as part of your room service order. (Yes, even if you have the upgraded beverage package onboard. But I’d say that it’s relatively normal practice now, other than in the “ultra-luxury” cruise lines.)

How to Avoid Additional Drinks Charges: You can avoid the charge by getting your own drinks from the bar or just requesting beer or cider to be stocked in your cabin fridge at no additional charge. For example, I drink sparkling water and sodas. So I ask for those to be stocked in my cabin fridge, as part of the included amenities. When I order room service, typically after a long port day, I already have the cold drinks in my fridge!

Azamara Cruises Late Night Room Service Menu

As with most cruise lines, the room service menu shrinks to a small selection for late night orders. For Azamara Cruises, the late night menu starts at 10pm till the breakfast room service menu starts at 6am the following day.

Azamara Cruises Room Service: Experience as Gluten Free Diner

At first glance, it may seem like there aren’t many room service options for a gluten free diner. This is not true. And I wish that Azamara Cruises would spend more time marking this up on their menus. Here’s a few things to note – not just for gluten free diners but also for those with dietary requirements:

  • “Gluten Free Option Available” is not used: Many cruise lines now marks certain menu items as “gluten free option available”, which are typically items that could be easily made gluten free. Azamara Cruises does not mark such items on their menus, not because those options are not available.
  • Inconsistencies in Allergen Markings: Some menu items are marked “gluten free” on one page but not marked “gluten free” on another. For example, the “Chicken Thai Coconut Soup” is gluten free in one section, and not marked as gluten free in another. I’m sure that it’s just a proofreading error but for someone with dietary requirements, this can be confusing. (I did warn you at the start of this post that I’ve become rather obsessive in how I read menus, since I had to become gluten free a few years ago!)

Azamara Cruises Room Service: Best Gluten-Free Options

Gluten Free Club Sandwich Room Service onboard Azamara Cruises

If you’re gluten free, the absolute star of the Room Service Menu is the gluten free club sandwich. (You can also opt for the gluten free vegan club sandwich option.) It’s the BEST GF club sandwich I’ve had in a long time and easily wins the crown of toasted sandwiches in my books out of all the cruise lines. The bread was Schar’s and well toasted. The fries were nice and crispy. I don’t think anyone can tell that it’s the gluten free version. (You can order a double portion if you’re hungry. What you see in the photo was my afternoon snack version, after a long port day and I couldn’t wait till dinner to fuel up.) Other gluten free options are:

  • Burgers: All the listed room service burger options can be made gluten free, with a GF brioche bun option. You can also easily customise your burger and add additional toppings if you wish. I did not order the GF burger for room service but I had it at the Patio cafe twice. That’s how good it was. Additional toppings can include bacon, fried egg, avocado, mushrooms, grilled onions, additional cheese etc.
  • Sandwiches: All the listed sandwiches can be made gluten free, either in toasted GF sliced bread, GF ciabatta roll or a GF baguette. (All the GF bread products onboard was Schar’s. This may be because my cruise started in Venice and Schar’s is a popular brand in Europe.) For example, if you’re craving for a Philly steak sandwich, it can be made with a GF baguette.
  • Hot Dishes: The NY strip steak, the Norwegian salmon and the Butter Chicken Curry (served without the poppadum) are actually gluten free, though it’s not marked as such. Gluten free pasta dishes are also available. Fish & Chips may take a bit longer but it can be done as there’s a separate gluten free frier.
  • Dessert: There’s always gluten free dessert onboard! (Despite the room service menu not stating anything!). At a minimum, you’ll be offered at least cheese with GF crackers, GF chocolate brownies and at least 6 flavours of gelato and sorbet. (I was told onboard by the MDR head waiter that all the gelato flavours are gluten free except for the Cookie Dough gelato. Most of the gelato flavours are not marked as such (if you visit the gelato counter in the buffet), even though it is GF. And the staff knows that those can be offered to a GF guest, too!)

Top GF Tip: So my top tip for eating well on an Azamara Cruise as a gluten free diner is to ask often whether something is gluten free or not. Just because you don’t see something marked as gluten free doesn’t mean that it isn’t already naturally gluten-free. Or that it couldn’t be made gluten free for you, without pre-ordering in advance. (It could just be an oversight in labelling like the gelato.)

How Fast Was Room Service?

I guess it almost always depends on what time you’re ordering. My order took 15 minutes, from phone call to delivery tray in my room. That’s pretty fast!

I ordered mid-afternoon, on a port day. Perhaps not as busy as breakfast but I’d say it can be one of the busier time, as cruisers are hungry & tired after a port day and room service seem like a good option before dinner time!

If you’re heading onto an Azamara cruise soon, I hope that the room service menus are helpful to you. And if you’re gluten free, rest assured that there are many options than what’s listed on the menus. 1. I see that the beers have a charge associated with them, is this only a charge due to it being room service, I assumed the beer was included in the price, and was free?

    • Hi Hank, you’re right! Beer delivered by room service is not free. But if you go to a bar and get beer, it’s included as part of your cruise fare on Azamara. (Just don’t ask me whether all beers served onboard are included though 😂. Because I don’t drink beer and didn’t ask!)
